The brief
One of the country's largest retailers needed business planning and Analysis for Office at the point where planning numbers feed the board pack. Accuracy and timing are the constraint. The engagement was the close, not a general planning programme.
Where the risk sat
The numbers feed a board pack on a fixed day. A template that only works in a workshop, or a planning model the finance team has to relearn during close, is a failed delivery. The work had to land in Analysis for Office, which is where the planners already were.
The build
Embedded planning logic and Analysis for Office templates the finance team already knew how to drive. In person for the parts that break if you only email a workbook. The model and the workbook were built for the day the pack is due, and tested against that day rather than against a demo script.
What we left in place
Planning logic the team can run, and Analysis for Office workbooks they can drive without us on the call. The point of the engagement was a close that still runs when the room is full and the clock is the constraint.
What shipped
Planning and reporting that performed reliably through close day in the live environment. The board pack still comes from the process finance already uses.
